Do yourself a favor… go to Target a few days BEFORE you’re moving and stock up on a few things. If there is no Target near you, I am sorry for your loss. However, they offer free shipping on orders over $50, and you will spend more than $50 🙂
- Toilet paper and paper towels
- Basic cleaning supplies— you have either packed yours and won’t be able to find them, or you need to use them at the last minute at your current place. Regardless, you can never have too much Windex.
- Shower curtain liner, pole, hooks. Some people are decent enough to leave a shower curtain rod behind for you, but many people take them. The last thing you want to do after a long day of moving is realize you have no shower curtain! Get one of those back-to-college specials for $10 or less for the whole shebang.
- A case of water (or beer) and some snacks, you’ll thank me later for this one.
- Paper plates, forks, and knives. After you move in, you need to unpack your bedroom and and get your sleeping situation organized. The kitchen is the last of your worries, so get yourself some throw-away supplies so you don’t have to stress.
- Lamps? I once had a tenant call me after he moved in, in good humor, and say, “Hey, thanks for the heads-up that I don’t have any lights in my house.” It was an older house and aside form he kitchen and bathroom, there was recessed lighting! So the poor guy was in the dark for a few days. Ask your real estate agent, I am sure they noticed the lighting situation.
Good luck!
